Florence Phelanyane presents at AIDS 2020 Virtual Conference

10 Jul 2020 - 08:30

Florence Phelanyane is an MPH student on the Epidemiology and Biostatistics track with a background in molecular biology (genetics and microbiology.) She presented elements of her MPH project at the AIDS 2020 Virtual Conference which took place from 06 to 10 July 2020. The presentation, an analysis of vertical transmission of HIV in Khayelitsha in Cape Town, was highlighted by aidsmap, an online HIV and AIDS information platform. “After my honours in Bioinformatics, I had initially intended to continue with the computational side of molecular biology until I managed to secure a meeting with Prof Andrew Boulle who convinced me to do the MPH instead. Prof Boulle told me the about rich history of PMTCT engagement in Khayelitsha (since the pilot in 1999), and proposed we review the services 20 years later. I was immediately sold on the idea. PMTCT Khayelitsha has been extensively reviewed and it has been an absolute privilege and honour to add to this growing body of work.”
