Guidance on COVID-19 in the School Environment
4 May 2020 - 11:45
The College of Public Health Medicine COVID-19 Evidence-based Task Team produced guidance for schools opening and published these on 30 April 2020. This guidance informed the Ministerial Advisory Committee (Public Health) decisions regarding measures to mitigate viral transmission risk in schools. The guidance has been widely reported in the media and was discussed at meetings with teacher unions prior to the opening of schools, as well as with the Equal Education Law Centre. Development of the Task Team guidance follows a systematic decision-making process and all guidances must be approved by a majority of the Council of College of Public Health Medicine and the President of the College of Medicine of South Africa, Prof Eric Buch, prior to publication.
